TO FIGHT TERRORISM & EXTREMISM IN THE REGION, ECOWAS LEADERS COMMIT ONE BILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS

The fight against terrorism in West Africa is said to be taking a robust approach by Leaders in the region.

The latest decision came following the end of a regional extraordinary meeting held in Burkina Faso on Saturday, September 14, 2019.

The energized and united ECOWAS leaders including Liberian President George Weah resolved and committed to a one million United States Dollar for the fight against terrorism in the region.

According to President George Weah limited funding over the period has undermined the fight against terrorism in the region but he is now confident that with the latest commitment by he and his colleagues the issue of the international situation will be addressed.

The one billion United States Dollars is expected to fund the fight against terrorism and extremism in the ECOWAS region from 2020 to 2024.

The Liberian leader said they are unbinding and are fully committed to stop the increasing wave of Jihadist violence in the Region.

President Weah described terrorism as global issue that needs concerted efforts of Africa Leaders.

The decision by ECOWAS leaders has been welcomed by citizens in the region and are hoping for the successful implementation of the initiative beginning 2020.
